Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions, answered.

We know that reaching out for therapy is a big step — and it’s completely normal to have questions before you start.

At Resilient Edge Therapy, we want you to feel informed, comfortable, and supported every step of the way.

Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive about therapy, virtual sessions, and our practice.

If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please contact us — we’re happy to help.

What is Resilient Edge Therapy?

Resilient Edge Therapy is a trauma-informed, relational therapy practice serving Illinois and Maryland.

We work with adults, teens (16+), and couples who want to heal from trauma, strengthen relationships, and reconnect with a sense of resilience and purpose.

Our work is grounded in compassion, safety, and the belief that healing happens through connection.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Right now, we’re offering virtual therapy only, which means all sessions are held online through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

This allows us to serve clients anywhere in Illinois or Maryland with comfort and flexibility.

As our practice grows, we plan to add in-person therapy options, and we’ll share updates here and on our Facebook page as soon as they become available.

How does virtual therapy work?

Virtual therapy (also called telehealth) is simply therapy that happens online instead of in an office.

You’ll meet with your therapist face-to-face over a private, encrypted video link — just like an in-person session, but from the comfort of your own space.

All you need is a stable internet connection and a quiet place where you feel comfortable talking.

Is online therapy really effective?

Yes! Research consistently shows that online therapy is just as effective as traditional in-person sessions for most issues, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship concerns.

Many clients even prefer it because it’s more flexible, accessible, and helps them feel more at ease in familiar surroundings.

What types of therapy do you provide?

Our approach is integrative and person-centered — meaning your therapy is tailored to you.

We draw from:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Relational Therapy

  • Person-Centered Therapy

Each session focuses on building awareness, resilience, and practical tools for healing.

What concerns do you work with?

We support clients through a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Sexual trauma and intimacy issues

  • Relationship and communication struggles

  • Grief and loss

  • Religious or spiritual trauma

  • Moral injury

  • Intimate partner or childhood abuse

  • Anxiety, depression, and stress

Whether you’re navigating a past trauma or working to build healthier relationships now, we’ll meet you where you are.

Do you offer couples or relationship therapy?

Yes. We provide couples therapy and relationship counseling to help partners rebuild trust, deepen emotional connection, and repair after conflict or trauma.

Our goal is to create a safe, collaborative space where both partners feel seen, heard, and supported.

Are you LGBTQ+ affirming?

Absolutely. Resilient Edge Therapy is an inclusive and affirming practice.

We welcome clients of all identities, orientations, and relationship structures, and we’re committed to providing a space of genuine respect, acceptance, and safety.

We are committed to providing a safe, compassionate space for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples to heal and grow.

How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes.

Many clients start with weekly sessions and then shift to biweekly or monthly as progress continues.

We’ll talk together about what schedule feels most supportive for you.

How do I schedule a session?

You can easily book a session or a free consultation through our online scheduling page.

Once you schedule, we’ll confirm your appointment and send you secure telehealth login details.

If you’re not sure where to start, the free consultation is a great way to ask questions and see if we’re a good fit.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, Resilient Edge Therapy is a private-pay practice.

We do not directly accept insurance, but we can provide a superbill for clients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance provider.

If you’re interested in using your insurance benefits, we encourage you to contact your insurance company to ask about out-of-network coverage for telehealth therapy.

We understand that therapy is an important investment, and we strive to keep our services as affordable and accessible as possible.

Please reach out to us or your insurance company with any questions — we’re happy to help you explore options that make therapy work for you.

What should I expect in my first session?

Your first session is all about getting to know you — no pressure, no judgment.
We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, explore your goals, and begin mapping out a plan that fits your needs and pace.

You don’t need to have it all figured out — that’s what we’re here for.

How can I prepare for a virtual session?

Here are a few simple tips:

  • Choose a quiet, private space where you can speak freely.

  • Use a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera.

  • Check your internet connection ahead of time.

  • Bring a notebook or anything that helps you feel grounded — a blanket, tea, or your favorite calming item.

What does the name “Resilient Edge Therapy” mean?

Our name comes from the idea that growth often happens right at the edge of our comfort zones.

Resilience isn’t about never struggling — it’s about finding strength when life feels steep.

We walk with you along those edges, helping you find your footing and move toward healing.

How can I stay updated on new services or in-person sessions?

Follow us on Facebook or check back here for updates.

We’ll share news about new offerings — including future in-person therapy options in Illinois and Maryland — as our practice continues to expand.
